AI Usage Policy

The editorial board of Jurnal Puitika recognizes the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies to support scholarly research and academic publishing, as well as the ethical risks associated with their use. This policy establishes the conditions under which AI tools may be used by authors and reviewers to safeguard scholarly integrity, transparency, accountability, originality, and the confidentiality of unpublished research. It is informed by the recommendations and publication ethics principles of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), the Open Access Scholarly Publishing Association (OASPA), and the World Association of Medical Editors (WAME).

Use of AI by Authors

Authors may use AI tools to support the preparation of manuscripts submitted to Jurnal Puitika, provided that such use complies with the principles of transparency, accountability, and scholarly integrity. Permitted applications may include language editing, translation assistance, technical support, data processing, coding, and the preparation of figures or other visual materials. However, AI tools must not replace the authors’ intellectual contributions to the research, including the formulation of research questions, critical interpretation of evidence, theoretical reasoning, and the development and substantiation of scholarly arguments and conclusions.

AI systems, including generative language models and other automated content-generation tools, must not be listed as authors or co-authors. Authorship is reserved for human contributors who meet the applicable authorship criteria and can accept responsibility for the work. AI-generated content must not be treated as a substitute for original scholarly research, independent analysis, or the authors’ own intellectual contribution.

Authors must disclose the use of generative AI tools in preparing their manuscripts, except for routine assistance limited to spelling, grammar correction, and formatting. Disclosure must be provided in the AI Usage Disclosure Statement submitted alongside the manuscript. Where AI has contributed to the research process, data analysis, interpretation, or the production of substantive content, the use must also be described in the relevant section of the manuscript, such as the Methods or Acknowledgments section, as appropriate. The disclosure must identify the tool and, where available, its version, explain its specific purpose, and describe the nature of its contribution. Prompts or other methodological details must be provided when necessary to ensure transparency, reproducibility, or adequate evaluation of the research.

Authors bear full responsibility for the accuracy, originality, validity, and integrity of all material submitted for publication, including material generated or modified with AI assistance. They must independently verify factual claims, data, interpretations, quotations, references, and other supporting evidence; ensure that all sources are appropriately cited and accurately represented; and check for fabricated information, misleading statements, bias, plagiarism, copyright infringement, and other potential violations of publication ethics. AI-generated material must not be presented as independently verified evidence, and AI tools must not be cited as authoritative sources of scholarly information.

The editorial board reserves the right to request further information concerning the use of AI, assess compliance with this policy, and employ appropriate screening tools where necessary. The results of AI-detection or other automated screening tools must not, on their own, be treated as conclusive evidence of misconduct. Undisclosed or improper use of AI that compromises scholarly integrity may result in rejection of the manuscript or, where applicable, correction or retraction of a published article, in accordance with the journal’s publication ethics policies.

Use of AI by Reviewers

Manuscripts submitted to Jurnal Puitika for peer review are confidential documents containing unpublished scholarly work. Reviewers must not upload, share, or otherwise disclose submitted manuscripts, excerpts, unpublished data, figures, or other confidential materials obtained through the review process to generative AI systems or third-party services. This prohibition applies regardless of whether a tool is described as private, secure, or confidential.

Reviewers must not use generative AI tools to conduct substantive scholarly evaluations, generate or substantially draft peer review reports, formulate review recommendations, or determine the scholarly merits of a manuscript. The assessment of originality, theoretical contribution, methodological rigor, analytical validity, interpretation of evidence, and scholarly significance must remain the independent intellectual responsibility of the human reviewer.

Limited use of AI tools to correct language, improve grammar, or enhance the clarity of a review report may be permitted only when no confidential manuscript content or other protected information is disclosed to the tool. Reviewers who use AI for such purposes must disclose this use to the handling editor and remain fully responsible for the accuracy, objectivity, confidentiality, and integrity of their reports. AI-generated statements, references, or recommendations must not be accepted without independent verification.

Reviewers must exercise independent scholarly judgment and must not allow AI-generated outputs to determine their assessments or recommendations. Any concerns about possible research misconduct, fabricated evidence, inappropriate AI use by authors, or other ethical issues identified during peer review should be reported directly to the handling editor rather than investigated by uploading manuscript content to external AI systems.

Failure to comply with this policy may result in the reviewer being removed from the review process and may affect their eligibility for future reviewing assignments. The editorial board retains responsibility for editorial decisions and for ensuring that the peer review process is conducted in accordance with the journal’s ethical standards.
